So many brands. So many steps. A litte overwhelmed with finding a skincare routine?
I’m here to simplify it a bit for you. This post is specifically for those who have no idea where to start or for those who have 20,000 products and still have no idea where to start. Let’s do some spring cleaning. 🌷
1.) Figure out your SKIN TYPE.
Normal- You don’t struggle much with oiliness or dryness. This skin type needs to be maintained.
Dry- You are always piling on lotion after lotion and still feel so dry. This skin type needs a hydration based routine.
Combination- The best (or worst) of both worlds! Welcome to chaos! This skin type needs to be balanced.
Oily- You feel the need to wash hard and often. This skin type needs focused exfoliation and proper hydration.
2.) Your 3 ESSENTIALS
CLEANSER- The first step is to remove the dirt and excess oil from your skin.
TONER- The second step is to balance your ph and close up your fresh and clean pores!
MOISTURIZER ( with SPF*)- The third step is to lock in the moisture and protect your skin.
* if your moisturizer does not contain SPF, make sure you have one on hand to apply afterwards
*only use spf during the day☀️
Simple enough right?
Once you have that routine going strong, I highly suggest an exfoliant that you can use 2-3 times a week. No exfoliation is just asking for clogged pores and layers of dead skin. This also means that makeup will not go on smoothly either!
When to exfoliate? After you cleanse!
If you have now become addicted to your new glowy skin, add in a mask 1-2 times per week. Oily skin? Try a clay mask. Dry skin? maybe an overnight hydration mask. Masks are great pick-me-ups during a hectic week.
When to apply your mask? After you tone!
Your next addition: Serum. Boy oh boy. Serums are fun! This is where you can target a specific skin care concern you have. Vitamin C is great for evening out skin tone. Hyaluronic acid hydrates your skin beautifully. A salicylic acid based serum aids in clearing up acne.
When to apply a serum? After you remove your mask!
My last suggestion for my skincare newbies is an eye cream! From your 20s on, an eye cream is beneficial. If you have younger skin, use something lightweight. More mature skin needs something a little more moisturizing.
When to apply eye cream? After your serum!
Whew! Here is the master order:
6.) Eye Cream
✨Use treatment products in the evening. Your skin does a lot of its healing overnight (this also means you actually need to get a good nights sleep!)
✨Cleanse, tone, and moisturize morning and night.
✨Change up your serums every once in awhile. It keeps your skin intrigued!
✨Looking for beauty on a budget? Target has released several decent, affordable natural skincare products. Less chemicals, happier skin.
✨Try to stick to the same brand for the majority of your products. Skincare lines create their products to work together.
✨Incorporate facials into your routine at least once a month to maximize reuslts🌻
✨REMEMBER. Everybody has different skin. What works for me, might not work for you. Get to know your skin.
